The Lancia Delta was built from 1979 to 1993, initially with well-behaved 1.3 and 1.5 liter engines, but soon with sporty units and turbochargers. The Delta HF Turbo was introduced in 1983 and it was at this time that the coachbuilder Zagato began to work on the Delta as a tuner. With the Lancia 037 Rally, the Italians had built the last rear-wheel drive car to become world rally champion.
