Cars that can take off and fly through the air have always been a dream of many people and inventors. There was a flying VW Beetle in the movie " Dudu" in the 1970s, but as early as 1960 a Beetle apparently took off from the ground.
However, it wasn't actually a Beetle, as Automobil Revue explained in issue 10/1960:
"Flying car or premature April Fool's joke? Neither of the two. It's just a dummy that the VW representative in Karlsruhe came up with, attached to a helicopter and flown over busy parts of the city."
This stunt certainly caused quite a stir ...
