Human instead of artificial intelligence
01/31/2019
There is a lot of talk today about artificial intelligence. However, intelligent traffic management existed even before computers, as the example here shows. Instead of the cars, note the small pulpit on the right of the photo.
Two traffic police officers were sitting in this booth, controlling the traffic by means of traffic lights.
In front of them they had a diagram of the lanes and buttons with which they could open or close the lanes.
You can bet that this was pretty efficient, at least in terms of the capacity of the intersection.
Incidentally, the photos were taken in 1952 in Zurich on Bellevue Platz.
