Cars on record sleeves
01/03/2019
We've written about vinyl records before. You probably remember the days when they were presented in large printed record sleeves measuring around 30 x 30 cm. Such sleeves were and are visually appealing, so it was worth investing in graphics and photography. Today, these "covers" are displayed on the phone at around 150 x 150 pixels, so of course a lot of impact is lost.
The example shown here is from a record by the Carpenters called "Now & Then". It shows Karen and Richard Carpenter in their Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona as they drive past the house they gave to their parents. The unfolded cover shows the picture in all its glory. Richard Capenter could easily afford the Daytona; after all, the brother-sister band's singles and records had won multiple gold and platinum awards.
Earl Klugh was also photographed with a Ferrari on his album "Low Ride". This was a (Magnum) Ferrari 308 GTS. We do not know whether Klugh drove the car himself.
The list of record illustrations/photos of cars is probably almost endless ...
And one more note: neither the Daytona nor the 308 GTS were really suitable for listening to the jazzy, pop music of the Carpenters and Earl Klugh ...
