What racing drivers' wives used to pick up their husbands ...

A great picture! It shows in the foreground a Lancia A112 (once born as Autobianchi A112) and in the background a Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo, the company car of Hans Heyer , who won the German Racing Championship with it in 1980. The whole thing was used for a Lancia advertisement under the title "Mrs. Heyer picks up her husband from work with it. Lancia A112. The fun is just beginning."
The ad, which is surprisingly small in print from today's perspective, goes even further:
"Hans Heyer, German racing champion in 1980 in a Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo, will confirm that Lancia builds top-class and technically brilliant racing sports cars. Marion Heyer, a housewife driving a Lancia A112 Abarth, will be happy to confirm that Lancia also builds its smallest production cars with the same sporting ambition."
At the time, the Lancia A112 Abarth had 70 hp, while the Group 5 Montecarlo had more than 450 hp. The husband got more to play with after all. And whether the space in the A112 was really enough to accommodate his equipment and luggage when his wife picked him up in the small A112 is a matter of some doubt ...
Incidentally, we have just published a driving report on the Lancia Montecarlo . The whole advertisement looked like this:
