Mayfly - Kodiak F1 from Germany
10/10/2018
The British or Americans talk about "one-day wonders" and mean something that is only famous for a short time. In Germany, you could also call it a one-day wonder. One such was the Kodiak F1, a super sports car from Germany.
It was shown for the first time at the IAA in 1983 and did not even have a name. The supplier was Speed + Sound and the engine was to be supplied by Chevrolet, a V8 of course.
It then took a few years before the gullwing sports car, now announced as the Kodiak F1, received a comprehensive report in Auto Motor und Sport magazine.
The plastic sports car with similarities to the Mercedes-Benz C111 was to cost DM 190,000.
The 5.7-liter engine from Chevrolet was brought to 300 hp, mounted in front of the rear axle and coupled to a transmission from ZF. 5.8 seconds were enough to reach 100 km/h and, according to AMS, the Kodiak made a good impression for a one-off. There were even dreams of a small series. There were 300 orders, one can read, and even a production plan had been drawn up. But then the molds for the body were burned at the selected vehicle manufacturer, and initiator Mladen Mitrovic had neither the money nor the nerve to start again. Six prototypes are said to have been created, and it is rumored that two of them are still on the road.
We would love to get acquainted with one of them, because the car has hardly lost any of its appeal over the last 30 years!
