Which one would you buy?

It's not every day that three Porsche 356 Speedsters come up for sale at an auction. But not only are there three examples, they also come in completely different conditions and with completely different histories. And that makes it exciting, because now you can ask yourself which of the three Speedsters you would prefer. Two of the three are already shown in the picture above.
Let's start with another, a 356 A 1600 Super Speedster from 1956, which is in well-maintained original condition, has never been restored, but doesn't need to be. A Speedster could hardly be more authentic.
As an alternative, RM/Sotheby's is offering a restoration object, a 356 A 1600 Super Speedster from 1958, which is complete and whose engine is even said to be running.
And the third? This is a "normal" 356 A Speedster from 1958, restored and "optimized", i.e. equipped with an improved engine with a larger displacement. The green Speedster is certainly the most fun to drive.
And the estimated values? USD 125,000 to 150,000 for the restoration base, USD 500,000 to 600,000 for the ready-to-drive white original and USD 300,000 to 350,000 for the restored green Speedster.
You can be sure that the barn find will never again become a car as true to the original as the white 56 Speedster. At the same time, USD 200,000 would hardly be enough to finance a high-quality restoration. And yet, if I had to guess which of the three cars will exceed its estimate the most, I would bet on the restoration object.
We'll find out on October 27, 2018, when RM/Sotheby's auctions off the three Speedsters and 61 other Porsche models. We will, of course, report on it then.
