Burning classic/young cars much more frequent than assumed (Question of the week)
10/01/2018
There are risks whose probability of occurrence is constantly overestimated or underestimated. One of these is a vehicle fire. That's why, as part of a "question of the week" , we want to know from our Zwischengas readers whether their classic/youngtimer has ever caught fire.
It turned out that fires in classic cars occur much more frequently than many people think. Almost 30 percent of the 249 survey participants had suffered damage due to fires. In 18.9% of cases, the fire was extinguished quickly and without major losses.
However, 6.4 percent reported considerable damage as a result of a vehicle fire, even if the car could be saved.
As many as 2.8 percent had to write off the vehicle completely after the fire - a total loss.
On the other hand, 70.7 percent reported that they had never been confronted with a burning car. For the sake of completeness, it should also be documented that 1.2 percent did not see their experience covered by any of the answers given.
Vehicle fires, albeit often on a small scale, are therefore surprisingly common, even if our question of the week would certainly not meet all the statistical tests.
Of course, as always, we also provide the analysis graphically. The question was: "Has one of your vehicles (classic/youngtimer) ever caught fire?"
The evaluations of the almost 120 "Questions of the Week" so far can still be read in the dedicated topic channel.
The "Question of the Week" is now taking a break for the next few weeks, as we have something new planned that we will be announcing shortly ...
