Strange classic car buyers or a new scam?

It has now happened to me for the second time that a potential buyer has contacted me about a vehicle advertised for sale, pretending to be an intermediary and suggesting that they meet the actual buyer (without a car) somewhere far away abroad (with airfare paid).
It's not immediately obvious that this is a scam, but somehow it doesn't smell good, especially as the callers usually know very little about the car. One supposed buyer even suggested paying for the car directly via Paypal without having seen it beforehand and then meeting abroad for the contract.
Has anything similar happened to you, our readers? Do any of our readers have any more specific/further experiences? If so, please leave a comment below ...
