By opening the hood (on the Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC)
10/26/2018
We have certainly seen many hood unlocking systems, and for decades engineers have been able to let off steam in this respect. There were hoods that could be unlocked by reaching under the bumper, while elsewhere the button for opening the bonnet was located in the glove compartment.
However, an opener on the left-hand side of the driver's footwell has prevailed. This is also the case with Mercedes-Benz. This is also easy to find. However, as with many other cars, the hood must also be unlocked at the front to prevent it from popping open unintentionally.
But where are these locking levers? We know the tab that pops out of the radiator grille, but the 500 SEC from 1984 does not (yet) have it.
A glance at the manual shows that Mercedes-Benz has installed two locking levers, one on the left and one on the right of the radiator. Ideally, you would now have three hands, two for unlocking and a third for lifting the massive hood. But if necessary, you can also do it with two hands if you do it right.
In any case, we have learned something new and the report is in the box and already published.
