When a VW Beetle is the center of attention
10/06/2018
There are certainly many cars to admire at the Motorworld Classics currently taking place in Berlin (October 4 to 7, 2018). For example, the BMW M1, painted by Andy Warhol, on the BMW stand or the small Peel P50 at P.S. Speicher.
However, one car in particular seems to attract the public, even though it is parked in the corner of one of the large halls: a Volkswagen Beetle 1302S. It is neither a pretzel Beetle nor a special convertible model, but a normal closed Beetle from the early seventies.
But the well-prepared owner provides a whole series of facts as to why this particular Beetle is special after all. It was painted in Wolfsburg in the extremely rare color "Gemini Blue Metallic" (L 96 E).
Above all, however, the Beetle born on June 10, 1971 has survived - after all, there are only 715 Beetles with a 1.6-liter engine left in Germany. In the 1302S, this engine was good for 50 hp at 4000 rpm.
The blue Beetle was originally sold in Sweden, where it has also clocked up most of its 123,000 km to date.
Without a complete restoration and with its first engine, it embodies an original contemporary witness that is a little special with its Ebersbächer auxiliary petrol heater, heated rear window and the aforementioned color, especially as it is still sprightly today and has an H registration.
Nevertheless, its owner now wants to part with the Beetle, and will only name the price on request. And Motorworld Classics Berlin still offers the opportunity to do so until Sunday evening.
