Not enough space in the trunk?
10/02/2018
The size of the trunk has always been an important part of test reports. Regardless of whether standard trunks or uniform cuboids were used for measurement, more was always better. However, I can't remember anyone using pumpkins as measuring sizes. This occurred to me last week when I drove past an old VW Beetle with lots of pumpkins sticking out of the trunk, in keeping with the current season.
The VW Beetle, especially before the introduction of the new front axle in the seventies, was not exactly equipped with a lot of loading capacity under the front lid. Accordingly, a luggage rack on the roof and in the interior was often used at the time, which could still hold cargo, especially under the rear window and on the rear seats.
But even when optimally utilized, the Beetle was probably clearly inferior to a Renault 4 or an Opel Kadett Caravan when it came to transporting as many pumpkins as possible.
P.S. You could have bought an old VW Beetle cheaply in Sweden a few days ago, as an entire museum was auctioned off there ...
