From 1956 to 1965, Fiat built the 600 Multipla, a versatile van with saloon qualities. Although the early microvan remained a niche product, its practicality and the space it offered on a very small footprint are still impressive today. And not surprisingly, the Multipla achieves high market quotations and auction prices today. It was almost in the spotlight, the Fiat 600 Multipla from 1957. Only a Le Mans winner (Peugeot 908 HDi FAP) and the most powerful Porsche ever built (917/30) stole the show, at least initially. Yet it had already attracted a lot of attention, both during the preview of the RM auction in Paris on February 5, 2014 and during the subsequent auction. And while one bid after another was called up, millions were applauded and cheered, the little Fiat waited for its chance, as it only went under the hammer at the very end. Interested parties therefore had to be patient and had time to think about what made this compact space giant so special and how it came about in the first place.
