Does it always have to be concours condition?

We are becoming more and more demanding, not least because of the requirements of the licensing authorities, but also because of the much-discussed increase in value and the associated obsession with originality.
But does everything really always have to be original, does everything have to look more perfect than it did when it was new?
If we think back to how classic cars were treated 30 or 40 years ago, the differences to today really become apparent. Back then, you had to improvise. Spare parts were often impossible to find, so you just took something similar and made it work. The important thing was that the old car ran again and that you had fun with it. Hardly anyone thought that every part in the car had to be authentic. After all, hardly anyone would have paid extra for it if it had been. This was the only way that the few everyday cars of the past, which we now love to see at classic car events, could survive.
In many cases, we are miles away from this pragmatism today. Perhaps we should take some things a little more lightly again, the fun would certainly not suffer as a result ...
