Why some, but not all cars are female ...
The Italians and the French probably have it easier, because in their language the automobile is basically feminine, which is why it is called "la Ferrari 308" south of the Gotthard or "la Renault Floride" west of the Jura Mountains.
In the German language, however, this is much more complicated, as the automobile is actually a neuter word. However, the motor vehicle or passenger car has a masculine gender and is ultimately called the Mercedes-Benz and, of course, the Porsche 911.
However, we also say the Alfa Romeo Giulia, because the Julia is a woman. Or we talk about the Citroën DS or the Chevrolet Corvette. And the Renault Alpine, which is probably due to the fact that this is a French car and la Berlinette rings through to us. But what about the Alfa Romeo Giulietta? If it is called by its German nickname "Julchen", it suddenly becomes neuter again, as is the case with diminutive variants in German.
It is similar with the Renault 4 CV, actually masculine as Renault Heck. It is only as a Crèmeschnittchen that it becomes neuter again.
While with some brand/type combinations you can be sure which article to put in front, others are more of a mystery. What about the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Veloce, for example? Or the Fiat Multipla? With the Fulvia? With the Barilla?
