The most popular of the elegant ones in Cernobbio
The people are always right, perhaps. At the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este yesterday, the spectators voted the Ferrari 166 MM Touring from 1950 as the most beautiful and awarded it the Coppa d'Oro. One should not distrust a democratic judgment.
However, the jury is likely to notice a few other exceptional vehicles when awarding the "Best of Show", we hope, and we will name two more candidates that could be shortlisted.
The Pegaso Cupula Enasa from 1952 won us over with its clever detail solutions and in parts quite bizarre shape, which is not lacking in elegance.
And the Fiat 8V with Vignale coupé bodywork from 1954 looks elegant and sporty at the same time, looks daintier than it is and spoils the eye with many well-designed details.
Other candidates? Of course, for example the Lancia Stratos Alitalia from 1976 or the OM Suberba 665 SSMM with Castagna bodywork from 1931. Of course, the list could go on and on.
We will of course document who really is/will be "Best of Show" in our comprehensive report on the Concorso.
