Automotive technology has developed significantly over the last 50 years. The designers of the sixties and seventies, for example, had to live with many constraints that are no longer limitations today.
Back then, for example, large headlights were a prerequisite for sufficient light output, and the 12 to 25 cm wide reflectors required for this had to be compatible with the shape.
Today, with LED, laser or xenon light, the designer has completely different possibilities, can work with lens systems and design the inclination and size of the light emission aperture almost at will.
What would have happened if Michelotti, Giugiaro or Spada had had these possibilities back in the sixties?
What would their car designs have looked like if they had been given more freedom in designing the front of the car? And what would the cars look like today if they had gone completely different ways back then?
Interesting questions that we will soon have to discuss with one of these designers.
