The end of the grid girls?
05/15/2015
The WEC (World Endurance Championship, FIA World Endurance Championship) announced a few weeks ago that endurance races, including the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, would in future take place without grid girls, i.e. attractive young girls who assign the drivers to the right place on the starting grid.
The role of women has changed and it is no longer appropriate to use the girls purely as decoration.
This may all be true, but the girls will still be missed, because in contrast to the increasingly similar racing cars, these women gave a starting grid that certain something.
In any case, there are many racing fans who will shed many a tear for the attractive ladies and for them, among others, we have created a series of picture magic that focuses on women and cars over eight decades .
We are yet to find out whether the Gridfirls' spell will spread to other racing series and historic motorsport.
