"Beautiful estate cars are called Avant" was once a catchy advertising slogan used by Audi AG for its estate models. It should have been added from 1994 at the latest, because from then on the Avant models were not only beautiful, but also sporty. The career of the fast trucks began with the Audi 80 Avant "Made by Porsche". This legendary RS2, which was created in cooperation between the two companies between 1994 and 1996, was the forefather of all later RS models, even if it did not yet have Quattro GmbH as the vehicle manufacturer on the papers. The privilege of being the first-born benefited the Audi S6 Plus in March 1996: an estate car based on the C4 model series, which was to be powered by a naturally aspirated four-valve V8 engine with 326 hp borrowed from the Audi S8. However, the model was rather mediocre in terms of performance and driving dynamics, which is why it remained a small edition, which also included some saloons. However, customer interest in sporty estate cars - with all-wheel drive, of course - was awakened. Mercedes-Benz and BMW did not have anything similar in their range, and Audi gave the developers at Quattro GmbH free rein.
