The first exit in spring
03/27/2012
The sun is shining longer every day, daffodils are sprouting and the last remnants of salt have been banished from the roads (at least temporarily). So it's time to give the classic car a run for its money.
Of course, you have taken precautions over the winter, disconnected the battery from the power circuit and probably even used a charger to ensure optimum voltage at the terminals. Nevertheless, it is always a great moment and there is a certain tension in the air when you put the key in the ignition for the first time. The oil and water are checked, the gear lever in neutral and the clutch depressed. Now a turn of the key and the starter motor is running. Thank goodness!
After a short time, it starts firing in each of the assembled cylinders and the engine, which has survived the winter months, runs reasonably smoothly. It doesn't seem to have become incontinent either, as a quick look under the car and an inspection of the engine compartment confirm.
So the first drive can begin, open of course, even though the breeze still seems to be quite cool.
The engine seems to rejoice at the newfound freedom. Step on the gas, I want to have fun!
