Lonely parked Ferrari 250 GTO
03/13/2012
Those were the days when broken-down million-dollar cars were parked in public parking lots completely unguarded at the end of the 1960s. But honestly, who wanted a car like that back then? They were no longer competitive as racing cars, and completely different vehicles were now in fashion.
On the occasion of a Swiss hill climb (probably Ollon-Villars 1969), it stood completely on its own at the edge of a parking lot. It was the Ferrari 250 GTO, probably the most valuable Ferrari of all time. Certainly an absolute original and not a replica!
You could probably have bought it for cheap back then. After all, it had been wrecked and its time in racing had come to an end.
Times have changed drastically, because today these cars are traded for up to 35 million dollars! They are certainly no longer parked in unguarded parking lots and you hardly ever see them anyway. At most, you might see them at the Rétromobile in Paris, in Monterey or Goodwood, but certainly not with a dented nose and ill-fitting hood.
