Valuable and elegant AC 428
11/08/2011
The value of a car built by AC at the same time as Maserati's Ghibli or Lamborghini's Jarama is steadily increasing. Only 80 AC 428 vehicles left the AC factory, 51 as coupés and 29 as convertibles.
The AC 428 owed its shape to Pietro Frua, who had done a great job. As usual, the engine came from Ford, the basis of the car corresponded to an extended Cobra chassis, but the AC 428 weighed considerably more than the Cobra due to the steel construction of the body built in Italy. The car, which was initially called the 427, was presented in Turin in 1965.
Interestingly, an AC 428 today costs considerably more than its rivals at the time.
RM auctioned an AC 428 Drophead Coupé (RHD) in London on October 26, 2011 for £ 125,000 (or around € 144,000, or CHF 175,000), whereby the surcharges and taxes would have to be added here.
Silverstone Auctions auctioned an AC 428 Coupé with manual gearbox (one of six built) for £ 136,400.00 (approx. € 156,000 or CHF 195,000). These are proud prices, but they show that buyers appreciate rarity, elegance and the manageable mechanical characteristics.
