Ford against Opel, Capri against Ascona
03/04/2012
Swiss championship race in Dijon 1974:
A hot duel with lots of dynamic cornering can be seen between the Ford Capri and the Opel Ascona. The battle is already being fought on treadless socks. Despite the importance of the power-to-weight ratio, the license plate remains on the car - presumably for insurance purposes.
Those were the days when you drove to the race in a "racing car" (or rather a slightly modified car) and, if possible, back home again. Back then, racing was still affordable for almost everyone. Certainly not at the highest level, but you can clearly see from the photos that the sport could be a lot of fun!
Today, you can't get away with anything on public roads anyway, so it makes perfect sense to create environments where you can let off steam.
We published a comprehensive report on the Ford Capri some time ago.
