A fair lady - the Roadster from Datsun
03/14/2012
The Brodway musical "My Fair Lady" gave the small Nissan/Datsun sports car its name. The roadster actually had hardly any feminine features, but was rather rustic and based on the grumpy English roadsters of the early sixties. Incidentally, the "Sports SPL 310 Fairlady" appeared on the market before the MG B, which did not prevent fans of the English brand from accusing the Japanese of plagiarism.
In the picture, we see Nissan Austria-Chdf Takayuki Uchida in the 1968 Datsun Fairlady 2000. The two-liter engine developed 135 SAE horsepower and propelled the car to a top speed of almost 200 km/h. Originally exported to the USA, the car was eventually brought back to Japan by a Nissan dealer in Kushiro and then fully restored. In March 2003, the red sports car arrived in Austria by container.
The Nissan Silvia (311) coupé designed by Graf Goertz , to which we have dedicated a large report , was built on the same technical basis as the SPL 310 Cabriolet.
