The Studebenz
01/05/2024
Oops, an unfamiliar vehicle? In fact, the saloon with its round eyes and rounded radiator grille is reminiscent of Studebaker cars, such as the Gran Turismo Hawk.
However, the tail fins seem a little out of date and the whole car doesn't look quite coherent anyway. In addition, the Studebaker designers were actually more oriented towards German models, i.e. Mercedes-Benz.
The solution to the riddle: it is a Mercedes-Benz of the W 108 series, built from 1965 onwards, but camouflaged for the test drives in the desert.
The "Studebenz" can be found in the official sales documents for the W 108 model series, announced as the 250 S, 250 SE and 300 SE.
The "S-Class" was sold with the attributes safe, reliable, comfortable, fast and stable in value. You could still live with that today.
It is worth taking a look at the sales documentation of the time ...
