Art on the rim

"Wheels are not only responsible for the driving characteristics of a car, but are also becoming increasingly important as a styling object. Light alloy wheels, currently the most exclusive design, have so far been reserved for expensive and sporty cars for cost reasons. However, the accessories industry responded to the desire of enthusiastic motorists for the popular special wheels and now offers an ever more extensive and tempting range for mass-produced cars ...", as was written in an issue of "auto motor und sport" at the end of 1969 .
And since then, aluminum wheels have established themselves across the board; hardly any car is delivered with steel rims anymore. Meanwhile, the wheels often live longer than the cars they are bolted onto, at least when they are transformed into a work of art. The three color photos were taken in the Birmensdorf area near Zurich, where these aluminum wheels can be found together in several columns.
For car enthusiasts, the question immediately arises as to which brands these rims were from and which car they were once used on. We have discovered wheels for Alfa Romeo, Opel and Ford in the color photos, but also for BMW and Japanese cars. Perhaps our readers can discover even more?
