Summary
From 1968 to 1977, Alfa Romeo built the Berlina as a larger version of the Giulia with engines of 1.8 and 2 liters. As a sporty saloon with comfort requirements, the powerful four-door model was aimed at a discerning clientele that purchased over 190,000 units. Nevertheless, the classic architecture with engine/transmission at the front and drive axle at the rear died with the Berlina and Giulia at Alfa Romeo at the end of the 1970s. This report shows the two-litre version of the Berlina in present-day and historical pictures and summarizes the history of this elegant saloon.

"Berlina" means nothing more and nothing less than "saloon". In contrast to the Giulia, the four-door model presented in 1968 was not given a special name and the lines from Bertone were also kept simple. Inside, however, the Giulia's big sister impressed with plenty of space and more comfort without significantly sacrificing sportiness. In January 1968, the model series extension was presented to the press at Salerno. The focus was on the increased displacement to 1779 cm3 of the proven twin-camshaft four-cylinder engine, which was also installed in the Coupé (Giulia Sprint) and Spider (Duetto). Although there was already a large saloon called the OSI 2600 Berlina de Luxe, this was only built in small numbers for wealthy customers, while Alfa Romeo aimed the new Berlina 1750 more at discerning Giulia owners with increased space and comfort requirements.
