It doesn't always have to be the Mille Miglia. A small, cozy one-day event among friends, close to each other, can be just as much fun as a major event far away.
Every year, a more or less large group of classic car enthusiasts meet at the Blasenberg restaurant on the Zugerberg for a short drive together on snow and ice. Without any stress, start numbers, timekeeping or even rankings, it's all about the joy of driving.
Young and classic cars
The only criteria for the vehicles are a minimum age of 25 years and, of course, winter equipment. An unusual route from the meeting point to Illgau in the Muota Valley and back is provided by organizer Martin Kolb with good maps, but does not have to be followed at all. The lunch meeting point is at the end of the first stage in the "Sigristenhaus" restaurant in Illgau.
The weather didn't want to play along - it was too nice!
Since Bernhard Brägger founded the rally, it has been called "Snow and Ice", but there was absolutely no sign of either this year. There was only snow in the background and only at the highest point of the ride, the Ibergeregg (1400 m above sea level). The roads themselves were dry as dust, or at most slightly damp with salt. As a result, the journey times were of course a little too well calculated, as it would have taken much longer to cover the same distance on the icy and snow-covered forest roads. So there was enough time to enjoy the warm rays of sunshine and the culinary delicacies.
Small, private get-together among friends
"Snow and Ice" is an event between friends, colleagues and good acquaintances. It is a small outing, which should not have 50 vehicles so as not to blow up all the venues. In addition, people also like to keep to themselves.
Another group in the canton of Obwalden enjoyed a leisurely drive on Whit Saturday for many years. But such small events always depend on the initiative of individual people. If the organizer dies, the event is usually dead too. This is exactly what happened to the Whitsun ride in the canton of Obwalden.
Years have passed very quickly and somehow we mourn the great days together, but unfortunately far too much time passes before someone finally takes the initiative and takes the organization back into their own hands. It's clear that there are now so many national and international events, but maybe you don't always want to be one of 200 and perhaps the small group offers much more togetherness.
