Summary
1971 saw the launch of the Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV, the final evolutionary stage of the Giulia Sprint GT, which had first been presented in 1963. With 133 DIN horsepower, a top speed of 200 km/h was now possible and yet there was no lack of everyday manners or comfort. No wonder, the GTV was already popular back then and it still is today. This driving report is about a 2000 GTV from 1973 and shows it in current and historical pictures. A sound sample is also included.

Preview (beginning of the article)
When Alfa Romeo announced a two-liter engine for the "Bertone" in June 1971, expectations were high. And the innovation did not disappoint. The GTV was even better and became a 200 km/h sports coupé. The Giulia Sprint GT coupé had already appeared at the Frankfurt Motor Show IAA in September 1963. Giorgetto Giugiaro had been the designer for Bertone and had created an almost timeless GT design with interesting accents, which ultimately lasted for more than an eighth of a century. Technically, the Sprint Coupé was related to the Giulia saloon, with the same twin-camshaft four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1570 cm3 under the hood. As early as 1965, the engine was given a little more power, now with 109 instead of 106 DIN hp, making a real 185 km/h possible, for the "Veloce" (Italian for fast).
