In color! Automobil Revue 1981 in the Zwischengas archive
The initial Zwischengas archive covered the Automobil-Revue years 1906 to 1980. Why up to 1980? Quite simply, when we started in 2010, 1980 was exactly 30 years ago. But time flew by and we were already writing in 2011 and would have liked to go back to the 1981 numbers, because the (new) cars from 1981, e.g. Porsche 944, Talbot Matra Murena, the Renault R18 Turbo, the Alfa Romeo GTV 6, the Mini Metro or the Aston Martin Lagonda, had all matured into classic cars. A remedy was needed!
Now the time has come, the 1981 issue of the Automobil Revue can be accessed in the Zwischengas archive !
A highlight of 1981 is certainly the anniversary issue AR 3/1981 , in which the 75th anniversary of the Automobil Revue was celebrated. Automotive technology, design, motorsport and economic and political changes in the years between 1906 and 1981 are analyzed from the perspective of the early 1980s. Adriano Cimarosti's article on the most important stages and achievements of motor racing is certainly a treat for motor sport fans in this issue .
Of course, 1981 also offers plenty of informative vehicle tests, such as the test drive with the Audi Quattro( Ur-Quattro), the Renault 5 Turbo( with mid-engine, in road and cup versions, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8or the BMW M 535 i.
Some people find the advertisements interesting, whether they are (sometimes in color) advertising images or the small advertisements, which often help to fathom the history of a car. What is particularly interesting about the 1981 vintage is the more frequent use of illustrations in the small advertisements and the increasing frequency of classic car advertisements.
Old cars are generally becoming more and more of an issue, as shown, for example, in the article" The Ford T model and its 'automatic gearbox'" .
Technology and trend topics are also covered in the 1981 issue, such as the trend towards body tuning with add-on parts.
The 1981 volume comprises 53 issues and around 4,000 pages, so the longer winter nights are just right. Over the next few weeks/months, we will gradually edit and publish the other volumes from 1982 to 1990. The structure of the search index is always a little behind schedule.
