On the road with the ball

At first glance, the Mozartkugeln from Mirabell have little to do with the historic automobile. But in fact, these round things with a mixture of chocolate, pistachios, marzipan and nougat were always faithful companions on long car journeys and ensured that my blood sugar levels did not drop.
Even on my first trips in the Alfasud tithrough Austria 40 or so years ago, there was always a packet of Mirabell sweets on board and on the way back the supply usually grew, to be passed on later in gift form. To be fair, it has to be said that Mozartkugeln are not ideal for snacking during the journey, especially if you are traveling alone. Removing the wrapping requires two hands and a sure instinct. And in summer it was even more difficult when they got warm ...
Nevertheless, or perhaps because of all the memories, the news that is currently circulating in the press makes me a little sad. The Mirabell company has filed for bankruptcy. How can such a traditional company run out of money (and customers)? This is incomprehensible to me, who is a real fan of Mozartkugeln. There are alternatives, but when Mirabell was on offer, I always preferred them to the competition, even if they weren't packaged in a violin-shaped box but only in a transparent bag.
I will miss them ...
