In memory of Stirling Moss and a very special sports car
Stirling Moss was once stopped by the police while driving fast in London. "Who do you think you are? Stirling Moss?", the policeman is said to have snarled. Sir Stirling Moss's honest answer at the time: "Yes".
In honor of Moss, who passed away in 2020, Mercedes-Benz had the famous 300 SLR racing sports car, in which Moss and Jenkinson won the 1000-mile "Mille Miglia" race in 1955, driven through London again and shot a beautiful short film entitled "The Last Blast - A tribute to Sir Stirling Moss".
This is how the press release reads:
" The result is a moving three-and-a-half-minute film. The tour starts early on a Sunday morning at The Temple. It passes the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, the Royal Automobile Club and The Ritz Hotel, on the way "722" meets the 300 SL "Gullwing" in which Moss drove to the Mille Miglia in 1995. The journey ends in front of Moss' private home in the Mayfair district. Elliot Moss stands outside the door and looks at the watch on his wrist that his father had worn for many years: the 300 SLR rolls out at exactly 7:22 a.m., Moss and Jenkinson's original start time for the Mille Miglia and therefore the starting number of the racing car. One turn of the ignition key and the engine stops."
The filming was complex. Filming took place on Sunday morning with around 50 participants. Eight motorcycle police officers were on duty. The helicopter shots were taken by a James Bond aerial photography team.
And the soundscape alone is worth watching the film.
