What is a seat box?

"The seat box - the model of an interior - allows, among other things, the design of the interior to be demonstrated under practical conditions," it said in Auto Motor und Sport in 1971. But by then, this "technical" seat box was already old news. BMWhad already used it at the end of the 1950s to develop the interior of the BMW 1500 ("New Class") on a 1:1 scale. The seat box shown here was therefore an important aid in the development of the car that ultimately saved BMW.
And while we're at it, we'd also like to show two important people who were instrumental in the development of the "Neue Klasse", namely Fritz Fiedler (engine development) and Wilhelm Hofmeister (head of body development).
And of course we also show the finished product.
