Prediction and reality using the Citroën XM as an example

In November 1988, Automobil Revue ventured a preview of the 1989 Geneva Motor Show, where the new Mercedes-Benz R129, the Alfa Romeo SZ and also the Citroën XM were expected. However, there was no talk of the XM yet, but simply of the CX successor.
"Preparations are in full swing in the PSA Group for the presentation of the new top models from Citroen and Peugeot; the CX successor is expected for the coming spring, the Peugeot for the fall of 1989," noted the Automobil Revue and published a drawing by Mark Stehrenberger, whose sketch once again somewhat glossed over the later reality. Stehrenberger's XM tended to be somewhat more elegant and straightforward than the later production version.
Incidentally, the presentation did not take place until May 1989 and not at the Geneva Motor Show. Instead, the Citroën XM was named " Car of the Year" in 1990 .
