Goodbye jumbo jet?
07/18/2020
The coronavirus crisis is now also hitting airline timers. British Airways, which is obviously struggling with difficulties, has decommissioned its fleet of jumbo jets, i.e. Boeing 747s, with immediate effect.
With its mighty stature and upper deck, the "Jumbo" is still reminiscent of the golden age of airline flying. For well-paying passengers, there was sometimes a cocktail bar complete with grand piano and pianist on board.
Countless car pictures were taken with the 747 in the background. And many were also happy to show jumbos taking off and landing.
In 2019, the Boeing 747 celebrated its 50th birthday; since its first flight in 1969, it has been repeatedly improved, but now, as a sprightly and surviving old-timer of the skies, so to speak, it no longer seems to meet today's requirements as well as competing products. What a pity! Visually, the Jumbo remains unrivaled and can only be surpassed by a Concorde ...
