Jaguar with four cylinders - is that possible?

Jaguar has just unveiled the F-Type with a four-cylinder engine.
In the age of downsizing, this is certainly understandable, but it's hard to imagine a four-cylinder two-liter engine, especially at Jaguar
For four or five decades, the Jaguar inline six-cylinder engine was considered the measure of (almost) all things. It propelled the SS 100, the XK models and the E-Type to superior performance, and the saloons also benefited.
It was not until the late E-Type and the XJ-S that twelve cylinders were introduced, and the successor to the XJ-S then had eight cylinders. But four? Never! Or did they?
Well, there were actually four-cylinder engines even earlier. The first Jaguar sedan, sold at the time as the SS One, was available with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. But that was soon the end of it.
It wasn't until the X-Type (2001-2009) that a four-cylinder engine was added to the front end again, but only as a diesel. Petrol engines with four cylinders finally arrived with the XE, which was launched in 2015.
And now the four-cylinder in the sports car! With 300 hp, it is the most powerful four-cylinder production engine in Jaguar history. And it accelerates the sports car from 0 to 100 km/h in a respectable 5.7 seconds. At the same time, it requires 16% less fuel than the V6. And it also saves weight (52 kg). And money too. After all, it still burns gasoline and not diesel ...
For the concerned, the following sentence from the press release is added: "The intake tract and exhaust system have been fine-tuned to produce the characteristic F-TYPE sound."
The days of the legendary in-line six-cylinder engine are over anyway; today almost no manufacturer can avoid the four-cylinder engine. It could have been even worse, e.g. with a three-cylinder ...
