BMW and Audi laudably commemorate vanished brands at Techno Classica
We were delighted when we entered the Audi and BMW stands at the Techno Classica in Essen (April 5 to 9, 2017). Audi did not put its own (and current) vehicles at the center of the presentation, but rather the NSU brand .
You can imagine that the NSU TTS played a major role here on the occasion of its 50th birthday.
But the Ro80 was also commemorated with two vehicles, one of which had a transparent hood.
BMW also has a brand that has disappeared, namely Glas. On display is a Glas 1204 Cabriolet from 1963, one of 2033 examples produced, which was ahead of its time with four cylinders, an aluminum crosshead and camshaft drive via timing belts. The occasion here is the 50th anniversary of the Dingolfing site, which joined the BMW empire with the takeover of Glas.
It would have been nice to see a Panhard at Citroën, a DAF Daffodil at Volvo or an Autobianchi at Fiat, just to name three more examples. But maybe that will come next year. It happens more often that manufacturers swallow up other brands, see Peugeot and Opel. So it's all the nicer when these brands don't simply disappear into oblivion, but are remembered. After all, some of their DNA usually also enriches the parent brand.
