A goldfish at the Techno Classica Essen 2017
04/06/2017
It is certainly not the most eye-catching car on the BMW stand; it actually looks like an almost normal BMW 735 IL from the second Siebner E32 series, whose predecessor is celebrating its 40th birthday this year.
However, the brown-colored Siebner has a lot of power under the hood, because it has a huge aluminum sixteen-cylinder engine, with 430 hp braked in tests at the time.
The engine was so large that the water cooler no longer fitted in the engine compartment and was moved to the trunk. In order to ventilate it, makeshift air intakes had to be installed on the flank.
The "goldfish" was created around 1987, when the twelve-cylinder engine had just been presented. Less than a dozen people were involved, a veritable secret project that never made it into series production.
Inside the V16-Siebner, it is noticeable that a six-speed gearbox was installed instead of an automatic transmission, while the rest of the interior corresponds to the series at the time.
The test V16 Siebner did not travel 1000 kilometers, and after a few tests it was consigned to the museum.
On the occasion of the Techno Classica, and this is the beauty of such trade fairs, the BMW Classic department brought it back out of obscurity and is giving it the attention it deserves until Sunday, April 9 in Essen.
