With the Volvo on the beach
04/11/2017
The so-called humpback Volvo is probably the most likeable product from the Swedish manufacturer's 90-year car history.
It was presented in 1944 and the car-hungry Swedes immediately began to order their "Volkswagen", but had to wait another three years before the PV444 could finally go into series production from 1947. So 2017 marks the 70th anniversary of production.
The developers had looked to Hanomag for the self-supporting body, and the engine was a good four-cylinder. It was robust and economical, and so it drove its way into the hearts of the owners.
Naturally, Volvo accompanied the market development with inspired photo material, the beach scene from above is an example of this. The fact that they were happy to stay in the studio with the car is also shown in the second sympathetic picture from the Volvo archive.
Some more pictures are available in a compilation.
