Rebirth of the (Ferrari) Dino 246 GT?
10/10/2016
Not everything that you already had was bad. Ferrari has now also understood this message. Not only the enormous price increase of the Dino 246 GT/GTSshows the popularity of the beautiful car from the late sixties, but now Ferrari actually wants to revive it.
Ferrari" of all companies, the brand that has only timidly built on tradition in the past, now wants to revive the Dino. Not only do the Italians want to bring the name "Dino" back onto the market, but the old design, which Centro Stile di Maranello has incorporated into the new car, is also intended to be specifically reminiscent of the 246.
The Alfa V6 Biturbo from the new Giulia Quadrifoglio is being discussed as a sensible new drive unit. After all, the V6 engine was already used in other cars at the time (Lancia Stratos and Fiat Dino).
The future coupé, with a top speed of around 300 km/h, is expected to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds with its 510 hp. The possible new competitor to the Porsche 911 is expected to cost between 120 and 130,000 euros. The 296 Dino could come onto the market in time for the 50th birthday of the 246 in 2018/19.
Let's see if the October issue of the Italian magazine "auto" with the exclusive story "Rinasce la piccola Ferrari con il V6" is right.
The question of whether the new Dino can build on the success of the Mini and Fiat 500 or, like the Beetle, only achieve a respectable level of success, will remain to be seen. But one thing is already clear to fans of the "old" Dino: the "Alfa 4C-Elise-Corvette-Dino blend" presented will probably never achieve the unique, perfect shape of Pininfarina's 246.
Incidentally, there have been rumors of a rebirth of the Dino in the past, but this never happened. Now, however, we not only have a suitable engine in the drawer, but also an additional source of motivation in the form of ever stricter environmental regulations.
