Classic pearls of the future - Alpine A110
06/19/2018
The Alpine A110 sports car is still fairly new on the market. We have already compared it to its predecessor and were quite impressed by its capabilities.
The limited first series has been available to buy since 2017 and is officially sold out. Anyone who currently orders one will have to wait until 2019 for their car to be delivered. Demand is therefore high. This is understandable, as Renault has done a lot right with the new Alpine. They have created a thoroughbred mid-engined sports car that focuses on driving pleasure without completely sacrificing comfort. The aluminum construction weighs just under 1100 kg and, in conjunction with the approximately 250 hp two-liter turbo engine, promises agile driving dynamics.
Visually, the whole thing is appetizingly presented, both on the outside with a large dollop of retro design and on the inside. The A110 is not lacking in tradition either; after all, its "father" was a rally series winner.
But is that enough? Perhaps not yet, but Renault hasn't played the whole piano yet. More power should not be a problem in an age where a Seat Leon Cupra produces 370 hp from two liters. Neither should slightly sharpened (rear) versions.
Many Zwischengas commentators would like to see a version that is even more "pure" than the one you can buy now. They would like to do without the automatic gearshift via DSG and also the air conditioning, and would be happy to pay for a 50 kg weight reduction by sacrificing comfort (and a lower purchase price than the approximately EUR 54,000, CHF 61,000). Whether this would be acceptable to the majority is unclear, but it would certainly be possible if the will were there. So the Alpine A110 can certainly be predicted to have a promising future, which should actually secure its classic pearl status ...
