Classic pearls of the future - Fiat Coupé
07/12/2013
The certainly not inconspicuous Fiat Coupé, which was built between 1993 and 2000, is actually still encountered surprisingly often in everyday road traffic.
The front-wheel drive coupé was unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show. The design with the characteristic hood and aerodynamically optimized headlights as well as the slanted slits above the wheel arches was created by Chris Bangle, who was working at the Centro Stile Fiat at the time. The rear end was more conventional than the rest and is reminiscent of the glorious GTs of the 1960s - a pleasing and certainly attractive design overall.
Pininfarina was responsible for the successful interior design, which included a surprising dashboard partly in the color of the car.
The whole package was already convincing with the four-cylinder turbo engine, the top-of-the-range engine then came in 1996 with the four-valve five-cylinder turbo engine, which produced 223 hp and could accelerate the coupé to around 250 km/h, making it the fastest road-going Fiat of all time.
With 72,762 units produced, the Coupé is not exactly a rarity, but some "Limited Edition" models were produced, which are much rarer and therefore particularly suitable for aficionados.
Many of the vehicles have been "refined" by their owners, so the collectors of tomorrow will certainly have to search a little longer for an original and unadulterated Fiat Coupé. They will get a compact vehicle that is a lot of fun to drive and will also impress with its good utility value.
