Can you recognize a classic car by its fuel filler cap? (Quiz)
07/15/2013
The automobile is only mobile because it can convert fuel into propulsion. Accordingly, the old and the new car need a few liters of petrol (or diesel) every few hundred kilometers.
In the early days of the car, the fuel tank was still clearly visible from the outside, but it soon disappeared under the bodywork and only an opening or a fuel cap was visible from the outside, sometimes not even this.
The appearance and equipment were usually quite individual, so that the entire vehicle could often be identified by the fuel filler neck.
We have selected 10 interesting cars from our archive and show their refueling solutions. Of course, we had to remove any telltale lettering or brand plates and the pictures are all monochrome to make it a little more difficult.
If you can recognize the old cars by their fuel filler caps without having to compare pictures, just give it a try ...
