Emily and her green admirer
07/01/2013
Despite the rain, Emily enjoyed the weekend in public with her unknown admirer. The little green grasshopper made herself comfortable on the shoulders of one of the most famous women in the world and she didn't hide in her radiator compartment either.
At the request of Lord Montagu, Charles Sykes designed a radiator grille for his private Rolls-Royce, which the artist called "The Whisper".
The Lord's idea became popular and caught on. Lord Montagu then commissioned Sykes from Rolls-Royce to design a radiator mascot.
Again, Eleanor Thronton was the model and the result was very similar to "The Whisper". Originally the figure was to be called "Spirit of Speed", but Rolls-Royce considered this name to be an un-English boast. So the radiator grille was called the "Spirit of Ecstasy".
Despite everything, everyone calls her "Emily", only the name of her little admirer is still unknown!
