Wheel arches then and now

One example of how design views and tastes change is the design of the wheel arch. If we look at an old Porsche 356 (picture: 1951 model with Reutter body), for example, we notice that the wheels are relatively far inwards, narrow and that there is a lot of space between the body and the tires.
From today's perspective, where wheel cut-outs are designed to be narrow and wheels sit huge and full in the wheel arch, this seems rather unusual. But it is not without a certain charm!
