World record at the Techno Classica 2012 in Essen
03/23/2012
Pegaso built a total of 86 sports cars between 1951 and 1958, a "quantité négligeable" you could say. Nevertheless, or perhaps precisely because of this, Pegaso sports cars are coveted collector's items and are highly prized by connoisseurs because of their exquisite engineering, which represented what was feasible at the time.
A whole series of coachbuilders took on the Pegaso chassis, from Carozzeria Touring to Serra and Saoutchik. In this respect, almost every vehicle was practically unique, especially when you consider the various technical configurations and the wide range of bodywork on offer. However, the Pegaso sports cars were not successful on the market, despite setting top speed records and taking part in prestigious races in Le Mans, Monte Carlo and the Bern Grand Prix.
SIHA, the organizer of the Techno Classica, has managed to bring 21 of the 60 Pegasos still alive to Essen for the 2012 edition, of which around 40 vehicles should also be in exhibition-ready condition. A one-off and probably a world record! This special exhibition alone should be enough to make the trip to Essen worthwhile. Techno Classica is still open until March 25.
And the fact that a noble Spanish classic car dealer has parked another Pegaso for sale right opposite the Pegaso exhibition makes the whole thing even more interesting, we think.
We have already published a more detailed and richly illustrated article about the entire Techno Classica. And we are also planning an extensive article on Pegaso.
