My highlights 2024
12/28/2024
My first year at Zwischengas lasted just three months. As a classic motoring journalist, I love working outside, doing productions with the "living object" and its owners. So it's undoubtedly the stories that depict cars and owners that I would particularly recommend and that are especially close to my heart. Because in these you learn the real essence of the cars, things that no test, no advertising brochure and no data sheet can convey. That's why, in the huge abundance of publications this year on Zwischengas, the articles that we produce specially, in which someone has brought out their car just for us, driven it with us, explained it to us and introduced us to its secrets, are among the very first highlights of the year. Of course, these are our own contributions to the list. Of course, you have to be able to stand by what you think is right. A great example of this was our driving report on the Citroën CX 2400 GTi.
But we are a sworn bunch in our editorial team and we also recognize without envy the many other great stories with which our colleagues continue to surprise and inspire us. For example, there is the Estafette by our colleague Krüger. Admittedly, I have a certain weakness for vans, as I occasionally drive one myself, albeit with an air-cooled rear engine.
Another remarkable special feature came about with the report on Stefan Fritschi's Toyota Corolla. I was allowed to drive the orange Japanese car from Bremgarten to Bern on another occasion a few years ago, thanks to the trust of the owner, who delivered the car to me in Bremgarten. Stefan Fritschi was a work colleague at the time, so we saw each other more often - but nevertheless. The car was a wonderful companion as I explored the historic old Hauptstrasse 1. My impressions of the car from back then have stayed with me to this day, a reason to finally write them down, because the Toyota did everything you would expect from a car and did so in an amazingly pleasant, very mature way.
My biggest highlight of the year is the fact that I have been part of the Zwischengas team since October. I remember many years ago, at an exhibition opening at the Swiss Museum of Transport, where I was advertising manager at the time, Daniel Reinhard presented me with the idea that he wanted to start an online story with some partners and colleagues, and today we all know what has become of this idea. And now I'm involved - what more could a writer, classic car enthusiast and hobby mechanic want?
