(Hardly) a surprise

For once, I have to be boring. But let's be honest: if a sixties Ferrari is in the selection – which car is likely to be the most fascinating of the past year? That's right. That's why I'm not going to say anything else here, just to be original. Nobody would believe me anyway.
So, by far the most wonderful car I was allowed to drive for zwischengas in 2024 was the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2. However, it wasn't the big name, the twelve cylinders or the immense value that made it so fascinating. No, the impressive thing about it was that it was actually impressive.
This circular argument explains as follows: People have their expectations of cars. Depending on the key data, they are correspondingly high – and the higher they are, the sooner disillusionment sets in at the wheel. Because the car is only as good as expected – but not better. However, the 365 GT 2+2 really surpassed everything I had expected of it beforehand.
If the Ferrari hadn't been there, the choice would have been more difficult. Perhaps the Sunbeam Rapier because of its elegance and exclusivity? Or the supercharged Mustang because of the powerful propulsion of its 330 hp? Or the Renault Alouette for its completely irrational driving pleasure? Fortunately, I didn't have to choose one of these criteria. Because the 365 GT 2+2 offered all that – and much more.
