All the features of modern automotive engineering
12/03/2024
Which car would have immediately come to mind with the heading "All the features of modern automotive engineering"?
Probably not the almost forgotten Simca 1307/1308, which was the car of the year in 1976! But it was precisely this headline that was used in the advertising for the new Simca model at the time, and the magazine "auto motor und sport" was even referred to.
These features were further "elaborated" in the advertisement as follows:
" Its technical concept: transverse engine, five-bearing crankshaft, front-wheel drive, chassis with independent suspension, front on transverse links with longitudinal torsion bars and cornering stabilizer, rear on longitudinal links with coil springs and transverse stabilizer.
Its equipment: a transistor ignition that starts the engine even under extreme conditions, headrests, heated rear window, dual-circuit brake system with front disc brakes and brake function control, radial tires, two reversing lights and carpeting."
At the time, all of this apparently constituted modern automobile construction. You can only marvel at this 50 years later.
Yes, times have changed, the Simca 1307/1308 is now rarer than a Ferrari F40 and no car manufacturer would describe suspension concepts in magazine advertisements today ...
Here is the whole advertisement, which is of course also available in higher resolution in the Zwischengas picture archive:
