A special look back at 2021 - the ride in Formula V
Year after year, we experience things that are better than anything else. Something that stays in the memory much longer than all the rest.
For me personally, the highlight this year was the fast-paced rides in the two Formula V racing cars, a Zarp (1966) and a Fuchs (1967), at the airfield in Dübendorf.
Two mini-bolids that don't boast incredible performance, but are as light as a feather (375 kg) and are great fun from the very first few meters. There's no need for hours of instruction, it's basically just a slimmed-down VW Beetle, a really simple driving machine, but with its weak 34 and approx. 60 hp it's more fun than many a 600, 700 or even 800 hp sports car weighing several tons. The laps were enjoyable and at some point I had to be forced to get out of the car, otherwise I would have run out of gas.
After driving the Toyota racing touring car (Pattaya), Renault Clio V6, Sport Spider and Megane in the Cup versions (Nogaro), Formula BMW (Valencia), Chevron Formula 3 (Dijon) and AGS Formula 1 (Le Luc), the Formula V was another great highlight in my life. AMAG Switzerland deserves a big thank you for this invitation, which is not an everyday occurrence.
I was also incredibly pleased about the many positive comments on my various, somewhat unusual picture stories, which I created back in my F1 days and which I put together with a lot of enthusiasm, black humor and irony. My picture story about the 2015 Monaco GP for "Auto, Motor und Sport" (online) already far surpassed the current coverage in terms of clicks. This year, I achieved the feat again with the illustrated stories about the Mille Miglia and the Targa Florio. The many positive comments and e-mails from you dear readers give me great motivation and make me want to keep going one better.
